The Great Grey Beast is 242 separate days layered into one continuous 8-hour piece. From January 3, 2012 until December 15, 2012, i carried a small stereo recorder around wherever i went and recorded everything that happened throughout my workday. The total recorded time was 2242 hours, 31 minutes, 27 seconds, or a little over 13 weeks of audio if it were all laid end-to-end; compressed as 192 Kbps mp3s, these recordings take up 180 GB of space. The recordings were bundled together in hi-res files by month, then finally layered over each other to build the final piece. Effectively, every second you hear is the sound of 242 seconds throughout the year all ticking by simultaneously.
